A man was arrested after a car crashed into security barriers at the House of Parliament, Westminster in London on Tuesday morning, injuring several pedestrians. The Metropolitan Police Service tweeted their Counter-Terrorism Command was leading the investigation on the incident.

Video footages from the scene showed armed police surrounding a silver car that collided with anti-terror bollards. The car appeared crumbled, with smoke coming from the back of the vehicle.

Cyclists were believed to be among the injured, however; officials said none of them seemed to have life-threatening injuries.

The London Ambulance Service tweeted two people were treated on the scene.

"I think it looked intentional - the car drove at speed and towards the barriers,” Ewalina Ochab, a witness said, Standard reported. "I was walking on the other side [of the road]. I heard some noise and someone screamed. I turned around and I saw a silver car driving very fast close to the railings, maybe even on the pavement. ... The person driving did not get out of the vehicle.”

No one was allowed to enter the parliament and the nearby Westminster Underground station was also closed.
