TLC dropped a trailer for "Long Island Medium: In Memory of 9/11" special on Thursday to reconnect individuals with the ones who lost their lives in the terrorist attack of Sept. 11, 2001. Netizens, however, seemed unhappy about it.
"New Special," TLC wrote in the caption along with the trailer. "20 years ago the world changed forever. Now, Theresa Caputo is using her gift to bring messages of healing and heroism on the new special #LongIslandMedium: In Memory of 9/11."
"Tune in Thursday, September 9 at 10/9c on TLC," they concluded the post.
Psychic Theresa Caputo, 54, will talk to a number of guests during the special including a New York City fire captain's sister and the daughters of Marcy Borders, known as "the Dust Lady," whose photos circulated in the media following the World Trade Center tragedy.
After the emotional 3-minute trailer was released, netizens on Instagram slammed the network for exploiting emotions.
One commenter wrote, "Once again exploiting these poor desperate family members lying to them into making them believe she can speak to the dead like COME ON PEOPLE! Everyone knows he made a call from the plane it’s on YouTube and everyone knows there is a photo of that mom with debris all over her face and body omgggg this makes me sick to my stomach."
"Shame on her for exploiting their loss as her show," while another commented, "It’s sad to make these poor families relive this stuff over and over again," another person wrote.
"She is certainly taking advantage of the grief and pain of those who have lost loved ones. But hey, it makes for good TV," added another commenter.
However, there were some people who supported the trailer and wrote, "If this brings them comfort, it’s not exploitation. These people asked for her help. God bless them. I hope they find what they’re looking for."
"People who do not have any type of ability to see things would think this is exploitation!! Why think poorly because you do not believe? If this brings comfort to the families.....what is it hurting??" a netizen said supporting TLC.
In the trailer, a woman tells the host that her brother "made the last call before the towers came down. It’s unbelievable." Similarly, more survivors and their family members were featured in the interview.
The "Long Island Medium: In Memory of 9/11" will also stream on Discovery+.
