Even though rumors from last year suggested the Lumia 940 and the Lumia 940 XL are the upcoming Microsoft flagship smartphones, recent speculation claimed the Redmond giant will be launching the Lumia 950 and the Lumia 950 XL as its flagship devices this year. However, fresh rumors are again claiming the Lumia 940 and 940 XL will be the names of the next flagship smartphones.

Nokia Power User (NPU) also claimed Microsoft is working on a successor model for the Lumia 830, the Lumia 840, that released last September.

The NPU report also said the unreleased handset was recently reported as the Lumia 850. As far as the Lumia 840 release date is concerned, Microsoft is rumored to make it available for purchase at the end of 2015 after the release of the Lumia 940 and the Lumia 940 XL flagships.

All the existing Lumia devices feature capacitive buttons for back, home and search on the bottom bezel. However, rumors are indicating the Lumia 940, the Lumia 940 XL and the Lumia 840 will all come with on-screen buttons.

Currently, the purported specifications of the Lumia 840 are unavailable. However, it is evident all three Lumia smartphones will arrive with Windows 10 Mobile onboard. Also, in the recent past, it was rumored the Lumia 730’s successor, the Lumia 740 is under the wraps. However, NPU’s report does not mention it.

Microsoft has said it soon will unveil premium Lumia handsets. However, as of this writing, the Redmond, Washington, giant has not revealed any information on the upcoming Lumia flagships.

The rumor mill suggests the Lumia 940 and the Lumia 940 XL are slated to be announced at the IFA 2015 event Sept. 4 in Berlin. Also, both the flagships will be available for purchase in October or November.
