KEY POINTS
- A Wedbush analyst has predicted that redesigned 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro will be unveiled at WWDC
- The analyst also claimed that the 2021 MacBook Pro may come with the M1 Apple silicon chip
- Apple is expected to announce new versions of iOS, iPadOS, macOS, watchOS and tvOS Monday
Apple is set to announce new software updates and products at its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) Monday. One analyst has suggested that the company may also launch the MacBook Pro 2021 during the developer-centric event.
Wedbush analyst Daniel Ives claimed in a note to investors seen by MacRumors that Apple plans to unveil new 14-inch and 16-inch versions of its flagship laptop at WWDC 2021. The analyst also predicted that the new MacBook Pro will come with the M1 Apple silicon chip.
Although Ives has made predictions regarding event announcements in the past, MacRumors suggested his latest claim is "unlikely to be the case." The outlet claimed that the 2021 MacBook Pro is more likely to feature a more powerful iteration of the M1 chip or even M2 instead of the M1 chip Apple had announced in November 2020.
That chip has since been included in the low-end MacBook Pro, MacBook Air and Mac Mini, along with the new 24-inch iMac and iPad Pro.
Aside from Ives, known Apple leaker Jon Prosser also said on Twitter last week that he believes the new MacBook Pro is coming at WWDC. However, he did not provide any additional information aside from this.
Meanwhile, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman did not state a specific release date but only said in May that the MacBook redesign could be launched as early this summer.
BGR noted that while WWDC is usually for software announcements, Apple has unveiled new hardware during the event in the past. On Monday, the company is expected to announce new versions of iOS, iPadOS, macOS, watchOS and tvOS.
Aside from his WWDC prediction, Ives also suggested in his note that the upcoming iPhone 13 models will include ones that have 1 TB of storage. If true, this means that some of the new iPhones will have double the storage capacity of current ones which stand at 512 GB. Aside from that, Ives also alleged that the upcoming models, from the lowest-end iPhone 13 mini to the iPhone 13 Pro Max, will feature LiDAR sensors.
The analyst further predicted that Apple will announce its highly anticipated AR glasses, or “Apple Glasses,” at next year's WWDC and the Apple Car in 2024.
