Maci Bookout Speaks Out About Car Crash On ‘Teen Mom OG,’ Says She Suffers From Nightmares
Hot off the heels of her explosive fight with co-star Farrah Abraham on “Teen Mom OG,” Maci Bookout was involved in a massive car accident with her 6-year-old son Bentley on Monday night’s episode of the MTV series. The wreck, which occurred in January near her hometown of Chattanooga, Tennessee, didn’t result in any injuries for the MTV star, her family or her unborn baby girl, Jayde, but the expectant reality star revealed during episode 9 that it did leave her shaken.
In the episode, titled “Boiling Point,” Maci, 23, revealed details about the crash that left her and her son dangling by their seat belts. Although both of them walked away with only a couple of bruises, Maci admitted to her rumored fiancé, Taylor McKinney, that she was “nauseous” and shaken up following the incident.
According to the “Teen Mom OG” star, her vehicle rolled over three times after colliding with another car whose tire had blown out. Her vehicle, which was shown in crash photos flipped upside down in the episode, toppled over after being hit by a third car from behind.
“He didn’t cry or anything,” Maci said of the reaction of her son, whose father is ex-fiancé Ryan Edwards. “It was crazy.”
After the crash, Maci said she visited a doctor to find out if the baby she is due to deliver on June 12 was harmed. “I was nervous,” Maci admitted, soon after revealing doctors had told her the baby was fine.
While Bentley put on a brave face immediately following the accident, Taylor and Maci said Bentley is no longer a fan of vehicles. “He’s like, how fast are you going? What’s the speed limit?” Maci said of the comments made by her son in the car when she's driven since the accident.
And Maci revealed Bentley was not the only one suffering from stress. “I keep having flashbacks and nightmares,” Maci said. “Just replaying it in my head over and over and over again.”
Coincidentally, Ryan was also involved in a wreck in the “Teen Mom OG” episode. Though Maci said her ex initially claimed the crash wasn’t “a big deal” -- he hit an SUV head-on while reaching for his cell phone and totaled his vehicle -- Maci’s producers informed her that wasn’t the case. After reading an article about his crash, which said Ryan was left “bloody on the side of the road” and that he wasn’t wearing a seat belt, Maci scheduled a sit-down with her ex to discuss their son’s safety.
“He has to be in a car seat no matter what,” Maci warned Ryan over dinner after he admitted he doesn’t always have the appropriate safety restraints for their son.
While the former couple did not fight over the issue, Maci later revealed to a friend that she was upset with Ryan.
“I have so much bad anxiety about it,” she said. “I have these moments of how bad it could have and probably should shave been and questioning why are we alive?”
Maci told her friend that at 27 years of age, Ryan should be a responsible adult.
“I’m just afraid of worst-case scenarios. I don’t want to take Bentley away from Ryan, but I’m going to be honest, I don’t want Bentley around Ryan if no one else is around. I’m done dealing with him. I gave up on him four years ago. I can’t fix him.”
“Teen Mom OG” airs Mondays at 10 p.m. EDT on MTV.
