  • MacKenzie and Jeff Bezos divorced in 2019

MacKenzie Bezos is the world’s 22nd richest person with $36 billion. How does she spend her fortune?

MacKenzie is the former wife of the guy who sits on top of cash rankings, Jeff Bezos. The two were married for 25 years before deciding to end it all in 2019. The divorce settlement is arguably the most expensive of all time. The Amazon founder transferred about 25 percent of his shares on the company to MacKenzie, which increased the latter’s net worth.

According to Forbes, MacKenzie signed up for The Giving Pledge after the settlement was revealed. The Giving Pledge was started by Bill and Melissa Gates and it aims to get the billionaires to donate all their wealth to worthy causes before they die. Some of the notable names on The Giving Pledge list are Richard Branson, Mark Zuckerberg and Warren Buffett, among others.

Reports revealed that the former couple actually had no prenup agreement but many are saying she deserved what she got out of the deal. MacKenzie can be credited for being one of the pillars of Amazon. Back when the company was still starting, she served as its accountant. Experts agreed that if not for her, there would be no Amazon, per Business Insider.

The mother of four is also an author by profession. She wrote “The Testing of Luther Albright: A Novel” in 2005 and “Traps” in 2013. The Princeton University graduate also reviewed several books in the past such as “The Everything Store: Jeff Bezos” and the “Age of Amazon” by Brad Stone.

With $36 billion net worth, MacKenzie Bezos tops Elon Musk, Lukas Walton and Phil Knight on the list. On the other hand, she ranks fourth on the richest women list of 2020, just trailing behind Julia Koch and Françoise Bettencourt Meyers. The throne of the richest women in the world in 2020 list belongs to Walmart heiress Alice Walton, who has a new worth of $54 billion.

If the 50-year-old decides to splurge on things, she could actually still have a decent amount of money left. Another Business Insider report indicated that if MacKenzie gave $100 each to every person in the U.S., she still has billions left. Moreover, if she decides to spend $1 million per month, she would not be able to spend all her fortune as it would take 3,000 years to empty her bank accounts.

With the ongoing pandemic, Amazon remains robust in its business as it thrives on e-commerce and online delivery, making it more convenient and safer for the consumers to just stay at home.
