  • Twitter users have mixed opinions on Mikkelsen's statement

Mads Mikkelsen has received another round of flak from Johnny Depp's fans online after explaining why he hasn't reached out to the latter despite agreeing to replace Depp in "Fantastic Beasts 3."

Mikkelsen, 55, recently talked to the Associated Press and revealed if he had spoken with Depp already. Apparently, the "Another Round" actor hasn't because he doesn't know how to reach out to Depp.

"No, I don’t know him. I met him once," Mikkelsen said. "I wish I had his phone number but unfortunately, that’s not the case."

In terms of preparing for the role, Mikkelsen said there was nothing he could do. However, he plans to just connect the bridge of what Depp did in the first two films with what he is going to do.

Depp's fans were not happy with Mikkelsen's statement, especially when he said that he doesn't know Depp personally. Many of them slammed the "Polar" star, with some calling him arrogant.

"The 'I don't know him' sounds so arrogant and entitled," one commented.

"I’m actually fed up with Mikkelsen already, though I don’t even know him. Never saw him in any movie," another added.

"If he really wanted #JohnnyDepp's phone number, he would just have to ask Warner Bros., other production houses, or the actors' agencies, or maybe the actors of 'Fantastic Beasts' with who Johnny played. But he won't, especially knowing why Johnny was left out of the movie," a third user wrote.

"Just because he 'doesn’t know him' doesn’t mean he should just ignore everything going on and look at the evidence. #JusticeForJohnnyDepp I would support any actor that actually stands up for the victim! #BoycottWarnerBros #JohnnyDeppIsMyGrindelwald," a fourth user wrote.

"Mad trying to ride that hype wave while its last But honey ...Once it be over u be forgotten again," a different netizen wrote.

Despite the backlash, many also defended Mikkelsen. For some Twitter users, the report was only creating drama even though there was never any.

One said Mikkelsen is Danish, not American. Also, he is not on social media. A different netizen also stressed that Mikkelsen has met several celebrities and could not remember them, so the issue about Depp should not be taken as a big deal.

"This headline is so misleading, People. Mads has mentioned in many interviews that he is celeb clueless. He didn't know who Rihanna was when he was in his video. He's met people several times and forgot who they are (Jerry Bruckheimer). Making a drama when there is none," one wrote.

"Is it misleading or are people just illiterate? I don’t know him just means he’s not an aquaintance, therefore there’s no reason he would have spoken to him. It doesn’t mean I’ve never heard of Johnny Depp," a third user agreed.

Meanwhile, some urged Mikkelsen to pick a side between Depp and Amber Heard. Depp resigned from the franchise at Warner Bros.' behest after he lost his case against The Sun. Depp sued the British tabloid for calling him "a wife-beater" following Heard's allegations that he was violent and abusive.

"He's playing it safe," Andy Signore said in an episode of "Popcorned Planet."

"He's doing what typical Hollywood PR people do. They play it safe, they do not have any genuine balls or loyalty. They just want to work and they want to stay at a drama and they got to say something and so he's playing it safe on both sides. He's not taking a side. And in this instance, I think it's important to take a side."
