“Dancing with the Stars” professional dancer Maksim Chmerkovskiy might not be dating 2014 Sochi Olympic gold medalist Meryl Davis, but the Ukrainian ballroom star reportedly has ties to Jennifer Lopez, People reported. They’re not officially dating, but when did that ever stop anyone from speculating?

The singer, 44, has been promoting her new studio album, "A.K.A.," which is due out June 17, yet apparently she has made some time for the “DWTS” fan favorite. They reportedly met through Lopez’s friend Leah Remini, who appeared on the show with partner Tony Dovolani on Season 17.

About Lopez and Chmerkovskiy, a source told People: "They are friends and have been talking."

But the alleged couple have been taking things slow because of their individual work commitments. "He danced with her at the [American Music Awards last November] and they kept in touch," a friend of the singer told the news site.

The insider wasn’t positive a possible fling between the two could turn into anything serious but didn’t say it was out of the question. "I think they could,” Lopez’s friend told People. “Who knows what will happen?"

The news site revealed Lopez and Remini attended Chmerkovskiy’s brother Val Chmerkovskiy’s 28th birthday in Los Angeles last March. There were more than 70 people who attended, included Season 18 finalist Candace Cameron Bure.

Reps for Chmerkovskiy and Lopez didn’t comment on the dating rumor.
