Man Accidentally Falls Off 200ft Cliff During Video Call With Wife To Show The View

A 40-year-old man died after falling 200 feet off a cliff in the Aravalis in India Saturday while trying to show the view to his wife during a video call.

Kamal Singh, a fabric designer who worked at a private textile company in Faridabad, went to a forested area off the Gurugram-Pali road with two friends – Harminder, a 42-year-old lawyer, and Ravi, a 25-year-old private firm employee, The Times of India reported.

"Kamal made a video call to his wife and was showing her the Aravali forests and hills. He probably hadn't realized he had walked up to the edge of the cliff. He lost his balance, slipped and fell," said Shri Bhagwan, the station house officer (SHO) of Dabua police station.

Harminder and Ravi immediately went to the police station at around 7:30 p.m. to inform them about what happened. However, it took the police three hours to locate the cliff from where Singh fell.

The body was recovered after almost six hours of searching as it was pitch dark.

"The forest looks alike. So, the two friends got confused and could not locate the cliff for around three hours. We went round and round in the same area. There are so many cliffs in this patch of the forest," Bhagwan said. "The next couple of hours were spent locating the body. We had to use hydraulic cranes and ropes to pull the body out."

According to police, the three friends carried drinks with them to the forest.

Singh, originally from Bulandshahr in Uttar Pradesh and stayed in Faridabad's Ballabhgarh, is survived by his wife and two daughters, aged 11 and 3.

After an autopsy, Singh's body was handed over to his family.

Bhagwan said they initiated inquest proceedings under Section 174 Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPc). According to the Indian Kanoon, when the officer in charge receives information that a person has suffered an unnatural death, he shall immediately give intimation thereof to the nearest executive magistrate.

In related news, a 29-year-old man from Delhi fell off a cliff while taking a selfie, The Times of India reported in July.

The man, identified as Dilip Mandal, fell near Totaghati temple in the Tehri district of Uttarakhand on the Badrinath highway.

When the incident happened, he was reportedly with his two friends on the way to Kedarnath shrine.

"The three were going in a car and had taken a break in Tothaghati. While taking a selfie, Mandal, a resident of Delhi Cantt, slipped and fell into a deep gorge. There was no time for his friends to react. He died on the spot," the disaster response team said.

Mandal's body was recovered after a two-hour operation by the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF).
