Man Accused Of Sewing Up 55-Year-Old Wife's Genitals Suspecting Infidelity
In an extreme case of domestic abuse, a 64-year-old man allegedly stitched up his wife's genitals as he suspected she was having an affair with someone.
Police said the man, hailing from the town of Singrauli in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh, is currently on the run. He faces multiple charges, including voluntarily causing hurt, causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means and detaining with criminal intent, reported The Indian Express. The identities of the suspect and the victim were not revealed.
The incident came to light after the 55-year-old victim approached a female police officer complaining about her husband. The woman said he used a needle and thread to sew her genitals on Aug 24. Police said the accused is also a fake doctor.
The officer alerted her higher officers and a case was registered for domestic abuse. A senior police officer told The Times Of India that doctors at a local government hospital confirmed the wife was assaulted.
"He had used a local thread and needle. She has suffered minor injuries. We have confiscated the needle and the thread," the officer added. The woman is currently seeking treatment at the hospital and she is doing well.
However, the officers were left baffled when the woman requested them not to take stern action against her husband despite all the torture she had to endure. She only wanted him to be reprimanded and not arrested so that he would not repeat the savagery, the officer told the news outlet.
The couple had been married for over three decades and has four children and multiple grandchildren.
Recently, a 40-year-old woman in India complained that her husband forced her to undergo eight abortions and take 1,500 steroid injections so that she could have a male child. The woman alleged that her husband took her to Bangkok for a pre-implantation genetic diagnosis as the procedure was banned in India. She was also forced to undergo treatment and surgery to select the sex of the embryo before conception, said her complaint.
