A man in Brazil was arrested for allegedly stabbing his girlfriend during an altercation at their house.
The incident took place on Aug. 31 in the south-eastern municipality of Ferros. Bruno Venceslau, 22, and his 21-year-old girlfriend, Maria Soares, reportedly got into an intense argument after the former went through the woman's phone and checked her messages, while she was asleep, Yahoo News reported.
Venceslau told the police he had found a message on Soares' phone, which implied she had cheated on him.
He added after reading the message, he tried to take his life with a pocket knife. But the 21-year-old girl woke up and stopped him.
Moments later, the couple had an altercation in the bedroom, where Soares denied cheating on him. Venceslau then stabbed her at least five times with his knife. He attempted to stop the bleeding, but couldn't due to heavy blood flow. The young girl later died from her injuries.
The police said Venceslau also tried to take his life with the pocket knife, but failed to do so. After the incident, he rushed to his parents' house and told them everything.
The police later arrested him at his parents' residence. Crime scene investigators revealed Soares was stabbed twice in the neck and thrice in the torso. They also found the pocket knife used in the killing on the bed.
Her body was taken to a morgue for an autopsy, and the police took Venceslau to a hospital for treatment of a superficial cut on his neck. They added there are no previous acts of violence reported against the 22-year-old man.
The police believe jealousy was the motivation behind the murder.
The investigation is currently underway into the murder.
In another incident, a 26-year-old Indiana woman fatally hit her boyfriend, Andre Smith, with her car after she caught him cheating on her. Gaylyn Morris used an Apple AirTag to track her boyfriend to a bar where he was meeting another woman. Indianapolis Metropolitan Police later arrested Morris. One witness also said Morris attempted to hit Smith's companion with an empty wine bottle in the bar, but he was able to stop it.
