Sherri Lynn Wilkins, the California woman found guilty of striking and killing a man with her car and driving with his body on her windshield for two miles, had her sentencing postponed Wednesday.

Wilkins, a 52-year-old former drug counselor, was convicted of second-degree murder, drunken driving and hit-and-run charges in February for killing 31-year-old Phillip Moreno, the Associated Press reported.

Wilkins was expected to be sentenced Wednesday, but her court appearance was postponed until June, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office said. She faces 45 years to life in prison for the November 2012 crime.

The 52-year-old former substance abuse counselor drove through Torrance with Moreno stuck to her windshield. She didn’t stop the car until a crowd surrounded her and subdued her until police arrived, according to KTLA. Moreno died at a hospital.

Deputy District Attorney John Harlan called the case “a complete tragedy” at the time of the verdict.

“The defendant should have pulled over,” he said. “Our society does not put up with people that don’t pull over after they’ve struck someone and that person is bleeding to death on their windshield.”

Wilkins could get a life sentence in the Moreno murder because she had two prior burglary convictions and February’s guilty verdict constitutes a third strike, according to KTLA.
