A British man who killed a mother-of-two by strangling and smothering her to death during sex was found guilty of her murder Monday.

Richard Bailey, 41, concealed the body of 33-year-old Charlotte Teeling for more than a week in his bedroom. A week later, the body was found face-down on his bed “naked apart from a piece of underwear on her midriff,” a jury heard in Birmingham Crown Court. Pornography was also scattered around her.

Authorities said he had then slept in the same room with the body and even used her bank cards to buy food after her death.

He, however, denied murder and manslaughter and claimed she died accidentally during “rough sex” after asking him to “pull her hair,” “slap her” and “choke her,” the New York Post reported.

The duo met in the morning at a nightclub in February and on the same night were seen on CCTV getting into a taxi to head to Bailey's home. Police appealed for information after she failed to return to Worcester, following a weekend in Birmingham. Bailey was arrested at his ex-partner’s home where he was attempting to re-kindle his romance upon hearing police were after him.

Prosecutor Jonas Hankin told the jury, “The pathologist has concluded that her death was most likely the result of forceful compression of the neck. The prosecution case is that while having penetrative intercourse with Charlotte, whether with her consent or without, the defendant caused her death by strangling her and smothering her.”

He was convicted after accepting he intended to kill or cause serious harm to Teeling. She sustained injuries to her neck and mouth as well as a bone fracture near the base of her tongue, the Guardian reported.

“He saw his opportunity when he met Charlotte that morning in Birmingham City Centre, took her back to his home address and was ultimately responsible for killing her. In the hours and days after her death he has been using her debit card to try and make purchases at various bars in Birmingham city centre,” Detective Inspector Jim Colclough said.

“Although the exact motive is unclear, sex is likely to have been a motive for killing her. The court heard evidence he had been in contact with an ex-partner to rekindle the relationship with her. While Charlotte’s body lay lifeless on the bed at his home he was then sending messages to an ex-partner asking her to rekindle their relationship. This is the actions of a very cold-hearted manipulative man,” he added, the Metro reported.

“Charlotte was a loving mother, daughter and sister. She was a caring person who did not deserve to die in these circumstances. I hope that her family and friends feel some sense of justice following today’s result at court. Despite this outcome we all know that it will not bring Charlotte back to the place where she belongs. Bailey was a manipulative individual and I do not agree with any suggestion that this was a sex game that went wrong,” he continued.
