A 52-year-old man tragically died after he fell down from the roof of his house in an attempt to get away from a swarm of monkeys in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.
The victim, identified as Horilal, lived alone in the house, while his sons stayed in Delhi for work. Horilal had gone to the roof of his house Tuesday evening when a pack of about 30 monkeys charged at him. And as he attempted to flee, he accidentally fell from the roof and suffered serious injuries, the Times of India reported.
Horilal's neighbors rushed him to the hospital, where he was declared dead.
The family cremated the body without informing the cops about the incident, local media reported.
"Horilal died because of monkeys. The government should do something about it. There are over 100 monkeys who target our houses and crops every day," the victim's relative told the Times of India.
This is not the first time a human being has fallen victim to a monkey attack in India.
In February 2021, a troop of primates abducted newborn twins in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu, and killed one of them by throwing the baby into a moat. The 8-day-old babies were left unattended in the living room as their mother, Bhuvaneshwari, was cooking in the kitchen. Upon hearing the screeching sound of monkeys, the mother rushed to the living room and found the simians had fled with the infants. The mother contacted the police and after searching, the deputies found the baby in a moat behind the house. The other twin was found abandoned on the rooftop of the house.
In another incident in July, a troop of monkeys stole a 4-month-old baby from his father's arms, and dropped him from a third-story rooftop. The baby died on the spot. The parents were strolling on the rooftop with the baby when the unsolicited attack occurred.
