Man Fatally Shoots Pregnant Wife Who Was Recently Released From Jail

A man fatally shot his pregnant wife who had just been released from jail, police have said.

The incident happened in Delhi, the capital city of India, Tuesday morning. Police arrested 32-year-old Waseem for killing his 29-year-old wife Saina, who was eight months pregnant.

Waseem also shot Shahadat, a domestic helper working for Saina who tried to protect her. Shahadat is undergoing treatment at a hospital, reported The Hindu.

Saina was previously married to Sharafat Sheikh, an alleged gangster and drug dealer who is now in jail. About a year ago, she married Waseem.

Saina, who was pregnant with twins, was arrested a few months ago for her alleged involvement in a drug deal. She was released on bail Saturday on grounds of pregnancy.

While she was in jail, Waseem reportedly entered into a relationship with Saina's sister Rihanna despite his wife's objections.

"When Saina was released from jail on bail, Waseem did not meet her. That led to frequent quarrels between them," RP Meena, deputy commissioner of police, said as per Hindustan Times.

Their fights culminated in the fatal shooting that happened in front of Saina's house Tuesday morning. CCTV footage at the residence showed Waseem repeatedly reloading his gun and shooting his wife even after she collapsed on the ground.

"A total of five bullets were fired out of which four hit Saina and one hit Shahadat," Meena said further.

Waseem is a local financier who has no criminal history prior to the shooting. The weapon used in the shooting was recovered from his possession, police said as reported by NDTV.

Meanwhile, authorities are looking into Rihanna's role in the incident.

In a similar incident last month, a 22-year-old man was arrested in Malaysia for slitting his pregnant wife's throat after finding out that she was having an affair. On the day of the incident, the accused reportedly asked his wife to confess to the affair. However, his wife refused, so he slit her throat and killed her in a fit of anger and jealousy.
