A man has ended up behind bars after he allegedly chopped off a woman's ear in an attempt to kidnap her children. The woman, identified as Basirat Bakare, was breastfeeding her twin infants when she was assaulted.

The shocking incident happened in the Nigerian state of Ogun last Wednesday, reported Prompt News.

Police said the accused, identified as Sikiru Adeniran, was initially chasing another girl. In her bid to escape him, the girl rushed into the victim's house. It was then that the accused set his sights on Bakare, who was breastfeeding her twin babies outside her house.

"The incident happened last Wednesday. I was with my children outside the house when one of the children in the neighborhood ran in my direction, shouting for help. She said a man was chasing her," Bakare told Punch Magazine.

"I quickly took the girl and my children inside our house. But I was about to close the door when the man forced the door open," she said.

She alleged that the man attacked her, biting her hands and neck so that she would lose her grip over her babies. "I was still fighting with him when he suddenly brought out a knife and cut my right ear. I was bleeding and shouted for help," she added.

The attack left Bakare defenseless, causing one of her babies to fall off her arms. However, on hearing her wail, neighbors rushed in.

Following this, the accused locked himself inside the kitchen. Though he tried to escape after shattering the window panes, people who surrounded the house got hold of him.

He was immediately arrested and charged with attempted kidnap and assault. The victim said the man immediately requested the people to let him go in exchange for money. The local people also stripped the accused and shot a video, which has gone viral. The man is heard saying in the video that he "was not a thief."

Meanwhile, the victim's family alleged that the officers were trying to hush up the case. Local police officers denied the charges. "The parents of the accused came to us and said he acted under the influence of hard drugs. The parents also visited the affected family to negotiate with them. But that does not concern us," a senior police officer told local media.
