Police in Barcelona, Spain, have arrested a bar worker who cut off her boss' penis after he allegedly tried to rape her.
The woman told authorities that she sliced off the man's appendage with a large kitchen knife at approximately 2 a.m. Monday after her boss, who owns the bar, allegedly attempted to sexually assault her, Spanish newspaper La Vanguardia reported.
The unnamed waitress and her boss, who were described as natives of Bangladesh in their 40s, had been working together at the El Sibarita de la Barca bar in Sant Andreu de la Barca for around six months prior to the incident.
Following the incident, another employee called the authorities and the emergency services to the bar, local television network La Sexta reported.
They transported the man to the Bellvitge University Hospital in L'Hospitalet de Llobregat for an emergency operation to attempt to reattach his genitalia. It is unclear whether the treatment was successful.
The woman was detained by members of the Catalan region's Mossos d'Esquadra police force and was charged for the attack, as per La Vanguardia. She admitted to cutting off her boss’ private part and told police she had been sexually abused by the man several times. She claimed that she had acted in self-defense against him during Monday's alleged rape attempt.
The unnamed employee who called emergency services told La Sexta that this is not the first time the woman's boss had abused her.
The Mossos said the man has been arrested for the crime of sexual assault, La Sexta and Euro Weekly News reported.
The woman and her boss allegedly had a relationship despite the man having a wife and children in their native country of Bangladesh, unnamed sources told La Vanguardia. They allegedly spent so much time together that the neighborhood believed "that they were a formal couple."
The woman allegedly told the man she wanted him to leave his wife, but he refused, La Sexta reported, citing unnamed sources.
The same sources alleged that the woman's version of events had changed several times and that she had contradicted herself, leading them to believe she had planned the incident.
Mossos have taken over the investigation of the incident and are aiming to determine whether or not there were possible crimes against sexual freedom involved.
