Man Kills 8-Year-Old Nephew For Taking Bite From His Snacks, Throws Body In Tubewell
In a bizarre incident, a man killed his eight-year-old nephew after the child took a bite from his snack.
The incident took place in the northern Indian state of Punjab on Sunday. The child, identified as Sahil, reportedly took a bite from the snacks that the accused, 21-year-old Karandeep, was having with his friend. Infuriated by this, the accused picked up a sharp-edged weapon and attacked the child, killing him on the spot. After committing the gory murder, Karandeep threw the child's body in a nearby tubewell, Latestly reported.
A while later, when Sahil’s maternal grandmother couldn't find the child anywhere, she approached her neighbors for help. The neighbors spent the entire night looking for him before filing a police complaint in the morning.
On the basis of suspicion, police detained Karandeep for questioning. After initially denying that he had a role to play in the child’s disappearance, the accused eventually confessed to the crime saying he killed the boy because he took a bite from his snack. The man also told the officers the location of the body, Hindustan Times reported.
Following the confession, the officers recovered the boy's body from the tubewell. The accused was taken into custody and appeared in court Monday, where he was charged with murder.
Police said the victim was a student of grade 4 and lived with his maternal grandmother after his parents divorced each other. The accused was a distant maternal uncle of the victim. The cops are also investigating if Karandeep’s friend had any role in the murder.
Last year, a 14-year-old boy in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh kidnapped his six-year-old nephew, demanded ransom from the family and then killed the child. After kidnapping the child, the teen sent the family a ransom note demanding Rs 50 lac ($67,980). The family filed a police complaint and investigators suspected the 14-year-old of the crime after his handwriting matched the ransom note. When he was taken into custody, the accused told the officers that the victim's parents would call him a "thief" and in a fit of rage, he kidnapped his nephew.
