A man killed his pregnant wife and chopped her body into pieces before grinding it. The gruesome incident took place in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.

According to local reports, the accused, identified as 35-year-old Ravindra Kumar, got into a heated argument with his wife on Jan. 4. In a fit of rage, he strangulated her to death and chopped her body into pieces before grinding it. He then burnt the remains and dumped the ashes in the outskirts of the town. He then informed the police that his wife was missing.

A police team started searching for the woman but couldn’t trace her. On Jan.10, the 27-year-old victim’s sister filed a complaint accusing Kumar of killing his wife. On Tuesday, the victim’s elder daughter, 7, who had witnessed the murder, reached her grandparents’ home and narrated the incident following which the family filed a police complaint. The accused was taken into custody and the remains of the victim were recovered.

Though the exact reason behind the murder was not known, police said the couple tied the knot in 2011 and had two daughters. The accused was suspecting that his wife would deliver a baby girl again. The victim’s elder daughter told police that her grandfather and uncles were also involved in the crime. They remained on the run as of Thursday.
