Man Livestreams Sex With Married Woman On Facebook, Charged With Revenge Porn
A 23-year-old man in Kerala, India, live-streamed himself having sex with a woman on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. It could turn out to be Kerala’s first case of revenge porn, India Times reported Sunday. The woman claimed she was raped under the guise of marriage. The clip went viral on social media and was allegedly filmed without the woman’s consent.
Though the woman said she didn’t know cameras were filming her, Linu, the man in the video, said she was aware.
She filed a complaint with authorities Friday after the reported rape. Linu was arrested and released the following day.
She and Linu were apparently having an affair for six months. He would stay over her house and promised they would get married one day, even though she is married to another man and has a child.
Linu reportedly admitted to police that he live streamed the incident to get attention on social media, Adimali Circle Inspector K Sabu told The News Minute.
“He (Linu) said that he did it to get more likes on Facebook. But there is a chance that this is revenge porn. He might have done it to take revenge on her when they fought. She knew that he was recording the act but did not know that he was broadcasting it,” Adimali Circle Inspector K Sabu told TNM Saturday.
According to India Today, “The physical interactions, however, seemed consensual.” TNM added: “It does not appear that the sex was forced.”
The woman’s twin sister requested the video be removed from social media. “She had come to the station crying and requesting that the video is removed from all platforms. Though she did not give a complaint, we will do our best to get it deleted,” the officer said.
After seizing Linu’s phone, police discovered he was in procession of more private videos of himself with the woman.
“They had shot such videos earlier also, so there should be a reason why he did a live. We will question him more after getting him in police custody,” authorities explained to TNM.
The charges against Linu have since been dropped. Authorities did not release the woman’s name.
Most recently, some might remeber “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” star Rob Kardashian coming under fire for revenge porn accusations. The E! reality star posted explicit images of ex-fiancée Blac Chyna on social media. He shared the pictures in July after he accused Chyna of cheating on him.
“This is, in many ways, exactly what the revenge porn law talks about,” Louis Shapiro, a criminal defense attorney, said at the time. “A prosecutor here could choose to make an example of him even if she doesn’t want to cooperate.”
