Man Makes Random FaceTime Calls To Strangers While Masturbating; Gets Arrested

A Florida man admitted to making several lewd video calls to unsuspecting strangers, police documents showed.

Adam Smith, 35, has been charged with indecent exposure, exposure of sexual organs and obscene communication in connection with three FaceTime video calls made in February where he appeared naked, The Smoking Gun reported, citing a probable cause affidavit.

The Knoxville, Tennessee, native used a phone number with the 865 area code to call his first reported victim on Feb. 13, the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office (SCSO) said.

The first victim told police they answered a call and saw "a white male, completely nude, squatting in front of the camera while stroking his penis," according to the affidavit.

Two more similar incidents that occurred between Feb. 19 and 22 were reported to the SCSO, but the caller's number in those incidents used a 727 area code instead.

The 865 area code covers Knoxville and its surrounding counties, while 727 is for Pinellas County, Florida.

Smith's first victim was able to take a screenshot of the caller, and the phone number used was found to have belonged to the telecom provider Pinger. Meanwhile, the number used for the next two calls was from Verizon, police said.

Authorities contacted Pinger, Verizon and Google during the investigations, and they were able to determine that both numbers were used by Smith at the time of the calls.

The screenshot taken by the first victim also showed that their caller had several tattoos that matched Smith's previously documented tattoos, documents showed.

Smith, whose occupation was listed as "painter" in police records, was later arrested.

He confessed to calling "numerous phone numbers and subsequently masturbating over video calls within the past two months" when he was questioned on April 25, according to authorities.

Smith was released on bond Tuesday. He is scheduled to be arraigned on June 3.

He was previously convicted of indecent exposure and drug charges back in 2019, his criminal history revealed.

In addition, Smith has also been convicted of grand theft, uttering a forged instrument, cocaine possession, driving with a suspended license and probation violation.

Smith's new indecent exposure incidents have been charged as felonies due to his prior conviction.
