A man impersonated a police officer and raped two women at a hotel that was converted into isolation facility. The incident took place in Adelaide, a city in Australia, on Friday.

A court heard Monday that the first victim answered the door around 8.30 p.m. Friday. She thought the accused was a police officer and let him in.

"She's been in isolation, she's from New South Wales — it was day 14 of her isolation. There was a knock at the door and the male provided a police ID card. He said he was checking on her due to the coronavirus so she let the male in,” the prosecutor told the court.

The 31-year-old unnamed accused handcuffed the victim to the sofa and asked her for money at gunpoint. She first handed over $400. However, when he continued to show her the gun, she gave him another $6,200. The man then raped her and returned $400 when she told him that she had no money even to buy food.

Around 10.45 the same night, the second victim was waiting in her room for her male travel companion to return. The travel companion walked into the room with a “police officer.” The accused then asked the man to stay in the bathroom and raped the woman.

"He showed her the handgun. He told her that she would go to prison if she was not quarantining and the only way she would not go to prison is if she had sex with him,” the prosecutor told the court.

The accused was charged with two counts each of rape and impersonating police. He was scheduled to appear in the court again in July.
