Man Slits 6-Month-Old Daughter's Neck After Fight With Wife Over Affair
In a horrific incident, a man allegedly slit his 6-month-old daughter's neck and chopped her fingers Sunday in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. The man from Moradabad was reportedly having a fight with his wife that resulted in the brutal attack on the baby.
According to Indian television news outlet NDTV, the man, in his mid-20s, was identified only by his first name Jahid. He was arrested by local police following the incident Sunday night.
Jahid accused his wife of having an extra-marital affair with another man who lived in the neighborhood, resulting in an argument between the husband and wife. During questioning, Jahid told police he overheard neighbors gossiping about his wife having an affair and that he was not the father of the baby.
When he confronted his wife later that night, she did not reply to his questions and in a fit of rage, he attacked the baby and his wife with a kitchen knife, according to reports.
While the baby was severely injured during the attack, the wife suffered minor cuts on her arm. Doctors treating the baby at a local hospital said the girl's speech may be severely impaired as her vocal cord had been cut.
Police launched an investigation into the incident. The charges against the man had not been revealed at the time of writing. Local media reports said neighbors told police Jahid was allegedly a drug addict and often physically abused his wife.
In April, another shocking incident took place in India when a 32-year-old man allegedly slit his minor daughter's throat in the city of Dehradun, in Uttarakhand, a northern state neighboring Uttar Pradesh. The man was identified as Victor Daniel and was charged with murdering his 7-year-old daughter.
During questioning, Victor confessed to murdering the girl in the "intervening night of April 14 and 15 at his residence. He said that he killed her because he wanted to take revenge from his first wife Shivani who had left him few days back," local police office Nivedita Kukreti told the Times of India at the time.
