Man Slits Throat Of 4-Year-Old Girl After She Resists Rape; Heartbroken Father Kills Self

A 30-year-man slashed the throat of a 4-year-old girl when she resisted his bid to rape her, before stuffing her body in a plastic sack and dumping it into a narrow shaft attached to the toilet of his flat.

Unable to stand the grief, the father of the child committed suicide by consuming poison.

Police said the horrific incident happened in the Indian Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli on Friday, according to NDTV. The accused Santosh Rajat has been arrested.

On Friday afternoon, the child was playing outside her home when she went missing.

A search operation was launched when the family members of the victim filed a missing person's complaint. Around 40 flats in the residential building where the child lived were searched after surveillance camera footage proved the child did not exit the apartment.

After a three-hour search, the child's body was found inside a plastic sack with her throat cut open by a sharp weapon.

A further search was conducted and police noticed that the windowpane in a flat adjacent to the child's home was broken. Following this, the accused was questioned. He initially feigned ignorance and gave contradictory answers, but the police found bloodstains in his bathroom.

Police further said Rajat soon confessed to seeing the girl playing on the ground floor of the apartment. He then took her inside and committed the crime.

“We have arrested the accused who was residing in the flat next to that of the child’s family since last year. He was sharing it with another man and both of them are employed at a factory at Silvassa GIDC,” Police inspector Chhaya Tandel told The Indian Express.

Upon hearing the news, the girl's father consumed a disinfectant and was rushed to a hospital, however, he died Saturday afternoon.

The accused has been charged with abduction, rape, unnatural offenses, and murder, police said.

In a similar incident, a 12-year-old boy was arrested last week in the Indian city of Chandigarh for raping and murdering a 6-year-old girl. Police found the semi-naked body of the girl in a forest area. The boy was a neighbor of the murdered girl.
