Man Strangles Colleague's Minor Daughter To Death For Resisting Rape
A man in India was taken into custody after he killed a teen for resisting rape.
Police told local media Tuesday that the 16-year-old girl was found dead at her home on Dec. 31, when her parents were not present. The incident took place in Muzaffarnagar, a city in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh.
Following the incident, the girl's parents filed a police complaint. As part of the investigation, the officers checked the CCTV footage, which showed a man loitering around the residence on the day of the incident. Investigators soon identified the man as Govind Kumar, who worked with the victim’s father in a paper mill.
The accused was later traced and detained for questioning. During interrogation, Kumar confessed to the crime. He told the officers that he entered the home when the girl was alone and tried to rape her. When she resisted his attempt, he strangled her to death. He then hung the girl’s body from the roof to make it look like a case of suicide and fled the scene, police officer Yogesh Sharma told Press Trust of India (PTI).
The accused has since been arrested and charged under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.
The incident comes less than a month after a 10-year-old girl in the western Indian state of Gujarat was killed after she resisted a rape attempt by a 24-year-old man named Dinesh Baisane. The girl’s parents had left her at her uncle’s home and went to work. The accused, who lived in the same area, saw the girl playing outside and lured her away on the pretext of offering her treats. He then took her to a remote place where he tried to rape her. When the victim resisted, the accused hit her on the head with a brick, killing her on the spot. The man was identified, taken into custody, and charged under the relevant sections of the law.
