Man Unwittingly Saves Toddler Who Accidentally Fell From Apartment Balcony
A man in Turkey has been hailed a hero after he unwittingly saved the life of a toddler who had fallen from the balcony of an apartment. The incredible rescue was caught on video, reports said.
The incident occurred in the Haci Ilyas neighborhood in Amasya, a city in northern Turkey. The toddler, identified as Khatira Amiri, fell from the balcony of an apartment on the first floor while playing.
The child miraculously survived after hitting a pedestrian, Ruhi Asci, whose body acted as a barrier to break the steep fall, NY Post reported.
The incident caught on CCTV camera shows a busy street where the rescuer, later identified as Asci, could be seen standing in front of an apartment complex. The video then shows something suddenly falling on Asci's back, hitting below his shoulder before bouncing onto the pavement.
Bewildered by what just happened, Asci turns around to check and finds the child lying on the pavement near him. He then picks up the boy while onlookers call someone from the apartment above, presumably the boy's parents to come and get the child.
"At first, I thought a flower pot had fallen on me. When I turned around, I realized it was a child," Asci describes the incident.
"They rolled off my back and hit the ground. A little blood came from their mouth and teeth," he added, Meaww reported.
Amiri was rushed to a hospital and is currently in a stable condition, according to reports. Meanwhile, it is unclear if the officials have initiated an investigation into the incident.
A transit commuter in Chicago rescued a man, earlier this month after the victim got stuck on an electrified subway rail. 20-year-old Anthony Perry jumped into action and pulled the victim to safety when he saw him lying unconscious on the rail track. The victim reportedly fell on the electrified rail after a brawl with another man. To honor Perry, who risked his life to save the victim, he was rewarded with a car.
