Man Wanted Video Of Teen's Rape To Help Her Escape Abusive Father
A Wisconsin man demanded a 14-year-old girl to send him a video of her adoptive father raping her as evidence after she reached out to him for help. He was arrested on Dec. 31.
According to court records released Tuesday, Bryan Rogers, 31, met the Tennessee girl online. On Dec. 24, the girl reached out to the man for help and told him she was being sexually assaulted by her stepfather at home. She also told him though she told her mother about it, the latter did not believe her.
In a message, Rogers told the girl to record the rape and email it to him. He also told her he could get into trouble without the video evidence.
"And I know you don't want to do it but I don't exactly want to see your dad rape you either. But we need clear video evidence," Rogers wrote in a chat message, Buzz Feed News reported.
The girl responded by saying, "I just can't promise I'll get the evidence."
Rogers told her, "Then I can't promise I can get you away from that I hate to say it but I can't risk getting in trouble for you. If you get that video I can get you out of there but without it you will just wind up back with your dad and I'll be in trouble.”
However, when the girl continued to beg him for help, he instructed her to be in her room when her dad comes home and secretly record the assault. She agreed and sent the video to Rogers on Jan. 10.
A seven-minute-long video of a girl being raped by an adult was found by investigators in Rogers' computer.
On Jan. 14, Rogers drove to Tennessee to pick up the girl and bring her to Wisconsin, where he lived with his mother. During the drive, he avoided tollways and gas stations with CCTV cameras.
On the following day, the girl was reported missing by her mother, Christina. In a news conference, she along with the girl’s adoptive father, Randall Pruitt, begged for their daughter to come back.
"It's like having your soul ripped out of our body. You can't think, you can't eat, you can't sleep, you can't rest. Life has just ceased for us since the day she left,” Randall said.
Officials reached Rogers' home on Jan. 31 and found the girl hiding in a basement closet.
During police interrogation, Rogers told officials the video was blurry and that he did not send it to law enforcement thinking it wouldn't stand up in court, ABC-affiliated television station WATE reported.
He was taken into custody and charged with abduction. Randall too was arrested and charged with rape, with his bond set at $2 million. While Rogers could face 15 to 30 years in federal prison if found guilty, Randall is due back in court on May 13.
