Manchester United Allegedly Considering Canadian Forward To Replace Cristiano Ronaldo
KEY POINTS
- Manchester United is reportedly considering Jonathan David to replace Cristiano Ronaldo
- David is currently focused on helping Canada at the 2022 World Cup
- Ronaldo awaits his next stop after reaching a settlement with Manchester United
Manchester United is skimming the market for a new player, someone who may be left with big shoes to fill.
After his controversial interview with Piers Morgan, the exit of Cristiano Ronaldo was expected and something that was made official following a mutual consent made last Tuesday, November 22.
Hence, the Red Devils are now prowling for a replacement. One name that has been floated by journalist Fabricio Romano is Jonathan David of Lillie.
This comes not long after the journalist said that the 22-year-old Canadian forward could be on the move next year following an impressive stint with Les Dogues.
Furthermore, his efforts helped the club clinch the Ligue 1 title for the 2021-22 season.
"Jonathan David, I'm told that soon, many clubs will move and there is a great, great chance for him to make his move in 2023," the scribe said via his YouTube channel.
"Let's see if it will be January, let's see if it will be [in the] summer, but Jonathan David is expected to leave Lille in 2023 and many clubs are tracking him."
The Manchester Evening News also claimed that David was on the shortlist of the Red Devils, padding this possibility as the Canadian once aired his desire to join a "massive club."
For now, David is busy representing Canada at the 2022 World Cup.
To his credit, he has found the back of the net 22 times in 35 caps.
He is also valued at £48 million (over $57 million), another factor that could help determine if the Red Devils can get them to their side.
Given his play, David is expected to figure prominently for Canada, which is bunched with Belgium, Croatia and Morocco in Group F.
A good 2023 World Cup showing would boost the value of David, meaning more teams could enter the fray and try to recruit him to their side.
Like David, Ronaldo is also likely in his last World Cup stint.
But once the 2022 edition is over, there remains no clarity on which club would take in the Portuguese striker.
Ronaldo won three Premier League titles, the FA Cup, two League Cups, the Champions League, and the first of his five Ballon d'Or crowns with Manchester United before moving to Real Madrid in 2009.
