  • Jesse Lingard prefers to stay at Old Trafford
  • Jesse Lingard football future may be better elsewhere
  • Jadon Sancho coming could push Lingard further down the ranks

Jesse Lingard has been struggling with Manchester United this season although the 27-year-old is slowly getting his act together. He has scored goals in United's last two games and appears to have found his groove. His latest score was against LASK, one of two goals that led to the Red Devils 2-1 win over Die Lasker, sealing a 7-1 aggregate triumph.

Lingard had a total of four goals across all competitions, not exactly a good showing for him this season. He admits he has failed to live up to expectations but his recent performances are vital to helping him rebuild his self-confidence, BT Sport reported.

"I wanted to add goals this season and I started and scored, so hopefully now I can carry on throughout the rest of this competition," Lingard said. "When you're not in the right mental state, football takes your mind away from everything. I love playing football, enjoy football and, of course, Man Utd is in my blood. I love playing for the club," he added.

Before the COVID-19 pandemic set in, Lingard had started in only nine games. He does not deny that it has been a struggle for him and all he can do now is to take it as a challenge to play better. Since the resumption of play, he seems to be on the right track. However, he needs to stay the course and continue to get better if he wants to stay at Old Trafford.

“It’s been a lot different (this season). I know personally, I’ve not been at it and I know what I needed to do to get that confidence back," Lingard said in a previous post.

Against LASK, Lingard was performing well before he was yanked out at the 63rd mark in favor or Paul Pogba. The English midfielder was unhappy with the move and some feel that he could have shown more if was kept in the match.

"I was enjoying the game. I enjoy football and felt I could have scored more, but it's the manager's decision and I'll stand by that," Lingard said.

For former Man Utd midfielder Paul Scholes, it may be a sign of things to come. And things could only get harder if the Red Devils can pull off a deal for Jadon Sancho.

“It was a good chance for him to play 90 minutes, but when Ole [Gunnar Solskjaer] took him off it is a sign Ole is thinking of moving him on,” Scholes said. "Jesse is a good lad, he just needs a run of games but I don’t think he will get that at Manchester United, maybe at a mid-table team like an Everton or West Ham.”
