Manchester United Update: Star Signing Avoiding 'Interviews' Out Of Disappointment, Journalist Says

Manchester United star signing Donny Van de Beek may have grown tired of his current situation and has decided to just not talk about it.

Unlike Alex Telles and Edinson Cavani, Van de Beek’s debut season with the English Premier League team hasn’t been smooth. In fact, the club’s $47 million signing hasn’t been handed much pitch time this season, only making 10 appearances in the club’s current campaign.

Voetbal International columnist Suleyman Ozturk was the latest to weigh in on Van de Beek’s situation, but many in the sport have been urging the Dutch footballer to ditch United and take his talents elsewhere. According to Ozturk, one possible reason why Van de Beek has been silent was that he was so “disappointed” that he has started to contemplate his move to Old Trafford.

“I think Donny is also disappointed by this situation and therefore does not want to give interviews,” Ozturk told the publication.

The veteran soccer journalist also questioned United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s way of addressing Van de Beek’s case. For Ozturk, there’s no way the former Ajax star could get the minutes he desires with players like Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford still the club’s top priorities.

“[Ole Gunnar] Solskjaer would be pleased if he honestly told Van de Beek, ‘I see you as a replacement for Bruno Fernandes.’ And then as a replacement, not the replacement,” the journalist pointed out. “Now you see that Solskjaer is talking about the future. But what future? [Bruno] Fernandes will play at Manchester United and [Marcus] Rashford too.”

Due to the growing issue regarding Van de Beek’s playing time, Solskjaer was once again forced to reveal his stance on the subject. According to the Norwegian, he has made it clear in the past that Van de Beek will stay, and just like any other new signing, the Dutchman also needs “time” before he can finally make his mark on the team.

“I’ve answered this question so many times,” Solskjaer recently said of Van de Beek in a statement on United’s official website. “There are so many examples of players needing a little bit of time – quality players. We have many players ourselves and there are other clubs with examples. Sometimes it takes time. You don’t expect people who care for him to be quiet at times, especially when they want the best for them.”

“Donny is going to play tomorrow (against Watford),” the manager continued. “There’s another chance for him. Yes, I've spoken to him and reiterated and made him aware how much we rate him. But he'll play tomorrow, and that's a good chance to kick on.”
