Among the major characters in “The Mandalorian” TV series is one played by “Breaking Bad” actor Giancarlo Esposito. Details about the character, including the name, are currently being kept under wraps, but the actor shared some details about it in a recent interview.

Esposito is best known for playing the drug dealing businessman Gustavo ‘Gus’ Fring. This is a role the actor reprised in the “Better Call Saul” spin off series. He appears to be playing a similar role in the first “Star Wars” live action TV series.

Speaking at a Television Critics Association panel, Esposito said that his character in “The Mandalorian” is “an underworld character,” Slash Film reported. The actor did not tease any details about how his character looks. Will he be playing an alien or a humanoid?

Although Espositio’s character appears to be the head of a criminal underground organization, his purpose on the show may be relatively positive. The actor described the character as someone who is trying to bring “some order to the world after it’s all collapsed.” He also called his character a “savior.”

The plot of “The Mandalorian” is set right after the events of “Return of the Jedi,” a time when the Empire has fallen and there is chaos across the galaxy. In a previous interview with “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” the showrunner Jon Favreau said that the TV series is all about the scum and villainy that is rampant because of the absence of the rule of law.

The show is mainly about a lone gunfighter, played by Pedro Pascal, who operates in the Outer Rim. The New Republic is still trying to establish some stability in the core worlds, but their authority doesn’t reach the Outer Rim.

“The Mandalorian” is expected to be released in November. Favreau previously told Collider that he has already started working on the next season of the TV series.
