‘Married At First Sight: The First Year’ Season 2 Recap Of Where The Couples Left Off Before The Midseason Premiere
The newlyweds are back! After another unsuccessful season of “Married at First Sight” (yes, all the Season 3 couples divorced), fans can watch the two earlier successful relationships from the FYI reality show. Jamie Otis and Doug Hehner will be back on TV along with Jason Carrion and Cortney Hendrix. However, since the entire third season of “MAFS” aired in the middle of “Married at First Sight: The First Year” Season 2, some viewers might need a refresher on where the show left off.
Jamie and Doug
This couple has had a rocky year. Jamie has been dying to buy a house and have a baby, but Doug isn’t ready for that. He has created a pre-baby bucket list that he wants to complete before having a child. It isn’t just that he wants his freedom; he is worried about his relationship with Jamie.
Doug’s wife started having feelings for her ex-boyfriend in the first half of Season 2. He admitted to sociologist Dr. Pepper Schwartz that he isn’t sure Jamie loves him. She doesn’t initiate sex, and he has started to feel like she isn’t even attracted to him. Eventually, with some help from Dr. Pepper, the two started communicating more. Jamie tried to put in some more effort and cut back on talking to her ex. Doug clarified that he didn’t want to rush into having babies, but that was just because he wants to build a solid foundation for their relationship. Just as things were starting to get better, Jamie decided she needed Doug to meet her ex. They were on their way to meet him when the midseason finale ended.
While audiences don’t know what will happen in the new episodes, Jamie and Doug have been keeping fans updated on their lives via social media. Despite their recent rough patch, they’re still together. They recently went to South Africa to finish Doug’s pre-baby bucket list. Jamie has also been keeping herself busy with a few new jobs. She started a spoon-inspired jewelry line and wrote a book, “Wifey 101: Everything I Got Wrong After Finding Mr. Right.”
Cortney and Jason
While this couple didn’t have quite as much trouble as Jamie and Doug, they still had their emotional obstacles to overcome. Cortney still doesn’t see herself raising a family in New York. Jason is a New York firefighter and was raised in Brooklyn, so the idea of leaving is difficult for him. However, a recent vacation to South Carolina made him think twice about a move.
Jason is also looking into his family. His father abandoned him when he was pretty young, but he wants to get in touch with him. He and Cortney hired a private investigator to find his dad, and it turns out he is in Florida with a new family. Jason didn’t contact his father right away, but he sent a message to his half sister.
Since the midseason finale, the couple haven’t revealed much about upcoming episodes. Cortney seems to be working steadily as a makeup artist and even co-hosted an event at Bloomingdale’s. Jason is still a firefighter, but his Instagram shows he makes time for plenty of date nights with his wife. Cortney also recently revealed she and Jason want to foster and adopt children, but it doesn’t sound like that will happen immediately.
Jasmine and Neph
“Married at First Sight: The First Year” Season 2 introduced viewers to Neph Rodriguez and his girlfriend Jasmine Gaona. After meeting in Las Vegas and maintaining a long-distance relationship, Jasmine moved to Brooklyn from Texas to live with Neph. The two were in the process of moving out of his mother’s house, but Neph worried that his girlfriend had been a little too comfortable in Texas. She wanted to find a bigger house and a location with a short commute time. Neph wasn’t sure if she understood the reality of living in New York. Meanwhile, Jasmine was concerned about Neph’s level of commitment. It doesn’t seem like he is ready for marriage, and Jasmine’s family is concerned she is changing her life for a man who hasn’t even proposed. She was headed back to Texas in the midseason finale.
Since then, Jasmine definitely returned to New York. She and Neph have posted pictures indicating they are still together, but they haven’t revealed if they finally found a house.
“Married at First Sight: The First Year” Season 2 premieres Tuesday, March 14, at 8 p.m. EST on FYI.
