A married former school teacher in New Zealand was sentenced to two and a half years in prison Tuesday for having sex with two teenage students in her car during lunch hours.

The court heard that the unnamed 37-year-old female teacher, who was employed at the school for over a decade, had sexual relationships with "a number of students." She met one of the two teens early 2018 and started messaging him every day. She then started flirting with him and eventually asked the teen to come for a drive. She then took him to a car park where they had sex.

The two then started having sex in her car during lunch breaks. At the end of 2018, the teacher invited another student to join them for having sex in her car. The court heard that the accused also sent sexually explicit content to both the boys and also threatened to harm herself if either of them stopped the relationship. After the incident came to light, her teaching registration was canceled and her name was listed on the child sex offenders register.

During sentencing Tuesday, Judge Tony Zohrab said, “Given your professional training and experience as a teacher, no-one should have been more attuned to the needs of young boys as they turn into men, as they try to develop a sense of self.”

Meanwhile, the lawyers of the accused requested that her name be suppressed as her children were bullied after the allegations came out in the open.

One of the lawyers also read out an apology letter stating, “I am deeply sorry I have hurt you and brought shame to your families. It was only me that was in the wrong and you have nothing to be ashamed of.”
