UPDATE: July 20, 10 p.m. EDT -- Marvel Studios confirmed that "Hawkeye," which will focus on Clint teaching Kate to be a superhero, will debut on Disney+ in fall 2021.

Original story: Kate Bishop is coming to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The female Hawkeye is set to be part of a new miniseries starring Jeremy Renner.

Disney+ keeps adding to its roster and the latest report (which Marvel Studios has yet to confirm) is that a Hawkeye miniseries is in development. Renner, who has played Hawkeye since 2011’s “Thor,” would star in the series, which would follow Clint Barton passing the torch to Kate Bishop, according to Variety.

The addition of Kate is exciting news for many comic book fans. The young archer is a fan-favorite character and a member of the Young Avengers in the source material.

Kate took up the Hawkeye mantle after being introduced in the comics in 2005. Clint was dead at the time, but after he returned, he mentored her. Their relationship was a large focus in writer Matt Fraction’s critically acclaimed “Hawkeye” comics, which could easily serve as inspiration for the Disney+ TV series.

Kate Bishop fans got excited last month when Renner’s archer appeared to be teaching a young girl how to shoot a bow and arrow in an “Avengers: Endgame” trailer. However, many noticed that the girl seemed a bit young to be Kate. Some think it’s more likely that audiences are seeing Clint’s daughter instead, but they will have to wait until the blockbuster hits theaters later this month to confirm her identity.

Whether Kate is introduced on the big or small screen, it seems like all signs point to the female archer joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The Hawkeye series is the fourth MCU TV show in the works at Disney+. Marvel Studios is also developing a TV show about Loki (Tom Hiddleston), a program with Scarlet Witch (Scarlet Witch) and Vision (Paul Bettany) as well as a series for Falcon (Anthony Mackie) and Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan).

Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige has confirmed that, unlike shows produced by Marvel Television, these limited series will have an effect on the MCU movies.

“[The superheroes in the TV shows] will undergo transformations in their series and those transformations will be reflected in their next film appearances because we’ve been developing long-form narrative stories for Disney+ at the exact same time that we’ve been developing a post-[‘Avengers: Endgame’] MCU, we’ve been able to do something we’ve never done before, which is interweave them from the start, from the plant,” Feige told /Film earlier this year.

Disney+ is expected to launch late this year. “Avengers: Endgame” releases April 26.
