'Mass Effect 3' Ending DLC Leaks Spoilers For Next Add-On: See The Hidden Script In 'Extended Cut' That Hints At Reapers As Playable Characters
Fans of Mass Effect 3 may think that the Extended Cut DLC was the last piece to BioWare's epic space-adventure puzzle. However, they may be mistaken. The game developer has confirmed that Mass Effect 3 isn't over yet.
According to GameSpy, Commander Shephard and crew will suit up to continue their missions against the Reapers in a non-linear plot-heavy single player downloadable content release. BioWare insists that it will not change the game's ending, but it seems as if the game wasn't actually over. Hidden files within the Extended Cut DLC reveal exactly what the new extension will entail.
One of the new add-ons will be called Leviathan, which was leaked in a partial script found in the Extended Cut index files. Pastebin was the first to unearth this discovery, which will involve Leviathan sending Commander Shephard on a mission to an alien dig site to rescue a scientist. However, the dig is actually part of a mining facility that has been indoctrinated by the Reapers and is controlled by a defector Reaper known as Leviathan. This character can even join the fight, as Gamespy acknowledges, and can be used as a strong asset in battle.
On June 27, a day after Extended Cut launched, Mass Effect 3 producer Mike Gamble further enticed fans on Twitter, enforcing the idea that the game is far from over.
Would now be a good time to talk about how we're doing more DLC in the future :P, he tweeted. That was a trick question. We'll save the future DLC for future chats. Don't worry though ... there's much more.
If the leaked information is true, this would be a radical step in the series for BioWare to take. The alleged Leviathan DLC would be the first time a player takes control of a Reaper in the game, adding a strange twist to Mass Effect 3 given the context of its ending.
But for some disgruntled fans, efforts by BioWare to release more content cannot undo the conclusion players have already come to know.
Who cares what war assets you have, one fan wrote in a forum on HoldTheLine.com. Leviathan or not-if they don't make a difference to anything. For me (and I realize this is just my opinion and others will feel differently), anything at all in the Mass Effect universe pre-Starchild is rendered utterly pointless, including replaying ME1 and ME2, because I have the knowledge of how it all ends and I because I loathe how it ends.
BioWare launched the Extended Cut DLC for free, reportedly to calm the enraged masses that were displeased with the ending of Mass Effect 3. After an FTC complaint, numerous online petitions, and more than 400 cupcakes, will BioWare next piece of the story appease its fan base? We'll have to wait to find out.
