Matt Damon recalled his experience of working with Ben Affleck as a writer ahead of their upcoming movie, "The Last Duel" release.
The duo teamed up to pen down a movie for the first time after their 1997 release "Good Will Hunting," which won an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay. Damon, 50, spoke about the writing process of this movie.
"I think that writing process for Good Will Hunting was so inefficient," Damon told Entertainment Tonight. "You know because we didn't really understand structure so we wrote thousands of pages. We'd be like, 'Well, what if this happened?' and then we'd just write different scenes."
"So, we had all these kinds of disparate scenes and then we kind of tried to jam them together into something that looked like a movie," the "Ford v Ferrari" star explained to the outlet.
However, the actor noted that the upcoming movie, "The Last Duel" is different as "it's a story about perspective." Damon noted that there are "two knights and then there's the Lady Marguerite" in the movie and their perspectives are penned by different talents.
The actor also told ET that the male perspectives of the two knights are penned by him and Affleck, 48, while director Nicole Holofcener wrote the female perspective for Lady Marguerite.
"That's kind of the architecture of that movie," he noted while speaking to the publication. "And I think we just found that having made... like making movies for 30 years, we actually learned something about structure along the way and the process went along a lot faster."
He further said Affleck and he will write more in the future as the recent movie "didn't turn out to be as time-consuming as" they thought. Moreover, the actor added that "it was actually a lot of fun."
The historical drama "The Last Duel" is slated to release in theaters on Oct. 15 this year.
Damon will also feature in the highly anticipated movie "Thor: Love and Thunder," which is currently under post-production and slated to release on May 6, 2022. On the other hand, Affleck is currently filming Andrés Muschietti helmed, "The Flash," which is scheduled to release on Nov. 4, 2022.
Affleck will also feature in the movies including "Hypnotic," "Ghost Army" and "Witness for the Prosecution."
On the personal front, Affleck is making headlines for dating Jennifer Lopez, while Damon is married to Luciana Barroso.
