Mayor Bloomberg Demands $600 Million From CityTime Contractor
Seeking to gain some control over the imploding scandal scarred CityTime timekeeping project which has billowed into a $700 million problem for taxpayers, Mayor Michael Bloomberg fired off an angry letter to the prime contractor demanding a hefty refund.
Because the project was apparently tainted by fraud and kickback schemes, the city must be made whole, Bloomberg said requesting Walter Havenstein, CEO of Science Applications International Corporation, pay the city back $600 million.
Bloomberg made reference to comments made by federal prosecutors who said the project was infected with fraud.
The Law Department could not comment on whether or not the city would seek legal action against SAIC, a major defense contractor.
