mediaTek To Release 5G Chipset In November
Mobile development company mediaTek finally announced their newest chipset for the smartphone market, a new SoC that will give support for the new 5G mobile network technology.
In a report by Gizmo China, CEO Cai Lixing announced that mediaTek SoC with 5G support will be available in the market during the first quarter of next year. This means users can expect new models from various smartphone makers sporting the new chipset capable of the highly-anticipated 5G technology around January to March 2020.
However, the aim of the chipset support would not be only for upcoming flagships. Lixing also revealed that they have worked on and will be launching both a mid- and low-range versions of the 5G chipset, making the technology available to all ends of users.
While no exact release date was given, users can expect mediaTek to make a more detailed announcement on the upcoming mediaTek Summit this November 26.
This new chipset reportedly will be able to support a multi-mode 5G and features the Helio M70 modem. This new modem has backward compatibility that works not only for 5G networks but also for older technologies from 4G down to 2G.
For their 5G technology chipset project, mediaTek worked closely with other top mobile companies such as China Mobile, Huawei, Nokia and NTT DOCOMO among others.
On the other hand, Tech Radar reports that Qualcomms’s entry for the 5G chipset for next year would be the new Snapdragon 865. It will be released this December 3rd and will find its way to new smartphones by 2020.
One of the first upcoming smartphones that are rumored to come with 5G support includes an upcoming device from Redmi.
