Meet The Cast Of ‘The Little Mermaid: Live!’ On ABC
ABC is finally getting into the spirit of producing successful live musicals for television with its first-ever entry into the field-- “The Little Mermaid: Live!”
The musical adaptation is a different twist and take on the kinds of shows that have been previously produced on rival broadcast networks. While those have either been based on stage shows exclusively or other movies that have been adapted into similar stage musicals, this story about a mermaid named Ariel who wishes to be human so she can win the heart of Prince Eric will be a bit different from what fans are used to. In addition to numbers that are performed live, the show will also feature snippets of the animated Disney film. According to a press release, the live performances will be “interwoven into the broadcast of the original feature film” for a “never-before-seen hybrid format.”
So who will be among the live performers participating in this one of a kind event? Get to know the various actors below!
Auli’i Cravalho as “Ariel”
Cravalho will take on the iconic role of Ariel, the red-headed mermaid princess with a beautiful singing voice and a desire to be with the human prince who has captured her heart. However, her hopes and dreams come at a price.
Cravalho is no stranger to Disney magic, having made her debut voicing the lead character in 2016’s “Moana.” She reprised the character for 2018’s “Ralph Wrecks the Internet” as well, and also starred in the short-lived NBC series “Rise.”
Queen Latifah as “Ursula”
Latifah will portray the Sea Urchin who strikes a deal with Ariel—human legs for her voice—and later changes the game to make sure she doesn’t lose out on her end of the bargain.
Latifah has been making a name for herself in both music and films for decades. Some of her biggest roles to date have included Khadijah James on “Living Single,” Matron Mama Morton in “Chicago,” Motormouth Maybelle in “Hairspray” and Carlotta Brown in “Star.”
Graham Phillips as “Prince Eric”
Phillips will take on the role of the dashingly handsome Prince who becomes the object of both Ariel and Ursula’s affections. Prior to taking on the role, he performed as Zach Florrick on “The Good Wife,” Liam Connors on “Secrets and Lies” and Nick St. Clair on “Riverdale.”
Shaggy as “Sebastian”
Starring as the crab who serves as King Triton’s closest advisor and Ariel’s confidant will be Shaggy, who might be better known to fans for his music, including the hit songs “It Wasn’t Me,” “Angel,” “What’s Love” and “I Got You.”
John Stamos as “Chef Louis”
Stamos rounds out the cast as the antagonistic chef who might pose some problems for Shaggy’s Sebastian. Fans best know the actor as Uncle Jesse from “Full House” and “Fuller House,” or even Blackie Parrish on “General Hospital,” but he has also had roles as Jake Phillips on “Jake in Progress,” Tony Gates on “ER,” Dr. Carl Howell on “Glee,” Jimmy Martino on “Grandfathered,” Dr. Brock Holt on “Scream Queens” and Dr. Nicky on “You.”
“The Wonderful World of Disney Presents: The Little Mermaid Live!” airs Nov. 5 at 8 p.m. EST on ABC.
