The latest Mega Millions grand prize has gone unclaimed, which means the jackpot will grow to $82 million with a cash value of $47.1 million. The next jackpot drawing will take place on Tuesday, Aug. 16.
Following the Tuesday night drawing, none of the players managed to become instant millionaires.
If a player would have hit the Match 5, they would have won $1 million. Meanwhile, if players would have matched five numbers with a Megaplier, they would have won $3 million.
There were six players who hit the Match 4 plus gold Mega Ball and won $10,000 each.
However, only one of those players managed to hit the Match 4 plus gold Mega Ball with the Megaplier, winning $30,000. The other Mega Millions wins from the night ranged between $2 and $1,500.
The latest Mega Millions jackpot comes after a player from Kentucky claimed a $1 million winning ticket from the Aug. 5 drawing.
The player, who chose to remain anonymous, purchased $20 worth of Quick Pick tickets at a Kroger supermarket in Erlanger.
The winner initially went to Kroger to check his ticket but had trouble finding out its value.
"I saw the message, 'prize exceeds cashing limit.' I really wasn't sure how much it was for," he told lottery officials.
The player also had someone from Krogers tell him the store sold a million winning ticket. "It's me, maybe," he told them. "I called the number on the back of the ticket, gave them the numbers, and they confirmed it was the winner."
The winner took home $710,000 after taxes. The man plans to use his winnings to buy a business.
Jackpot winners can receive their grand prize winnings through a one-time lump sum payment or an annuity.
Those who opt for the annuity receive one immediate payment, followed by 29 annual payments that increase by 5% each year.
Mega Millions can be played in 45 states, as well as the District of Columbia and the Virgin Islands.
