Meghan Markle Didn’t Change Her Style To Follow Royal Protocol, Says Designer
Meghan Markle’s style may have changed in recent months, but this doesn’t mean she’s doing it to adhere to royal protocol.
Caroline Castigliano, a bridal couture designer, told Express that she isn’t convinced Markle has lost her sense of style since she joined the royal family.
“I think she’s in a very different place, she has got to show her total respect of the royal family and the family she is part of and married into, and so it is such a new learning curve as to how to actually achieve that. She has a sense of style that was developed, as a young, beautiful actress in a highly successful television series, going everywhere looking super glamorous, but in a style that wouldn’t suit official outings as a member of the royal family,” she explained.
The designer said that it is only expected of Markle to try to fit in with what’s expected of her as the Duchess of Sussex, but this doesn’t mean that’s all she’s doing with regards to her style.
Castigliano noted that Kate Middleton also went through a similar process when she joined the royal family in 2011. The designer thinks that both Duchesses are using the same fashion assistant that’s why there are times wherein their clothes seem to mirror each other.
“I think after a year, after she has found her feet, so to speak, she will find a way to develop a Meghan style, with protocol, the two will come together. In the second year, you will start to see a slightly different slant on things,” she said.
In recent weeks, Markle has been criticized by some royal fans and experts for her fashion choices. They were specifically not happy to see her wearing a blue and white Oscar de la Renta dress when she attended Prince Harry’s cousin’s wedding.
Some people were also disappointed when Markle didn’t seem to follow the color scheme set for Prince Louis’ christening. In the photos, she was spotted in her olive-green Ralph Lauren dress while everyone else was wearing cream or pastel.
