She spoke out about the criticisms and pressures she has faced since joining the royal family in a new documentary that is set to air in the US on Wednesday night, but some experts are warning that Meghan Markle’s decision to open up could actually have negative consequences for the royal family as a whole.

The documentary, “Harry & Meghan: An African Journey,” aired on ITV in the UK over the weekend and is set for a debut in the US on ABC, and in the film, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex candidly revealed some of their concerns and issues with Tom Bradby. Notably, Markle discussed the constant negative attention she receives in the media and how it has affected her as she has struggled to adapt not only to life as a royal but as a newlywed and first-time mom as well.

The reaction to her interview and comments has been a major topic of discussion, and in an appearance, on ITV’s “Lorraine,” royal expert Russell Myers expressed concern that one comment in particular that the Duchess made could have negative impacts on the royal family for years to come.

“Meghan is struggling. She is talking about how she is finding being in the Royal Family very difficult,” he said. “There is a very, very powerful moment when she is speaking and she says, ‘no-one had asked how I am.’ I think that is very, very raw. It is very emotional. This is potentially very, very damaging for the Royal Family.”

“What does she mean by that? He continued. “Does she mean Prince Charles, Kate, William, Camilla have not asked her how she is? They obviously understand the struggles she is going through as well.”

Myers also noted that the level of emotion both Markle and Prince Harry have as they open up about their struggles in the documentary is additionally troubling because it’s clear they are both having a hard time with everything they’ve endured.

“Tom Bradby, who did the documentary, said the couple were vulnerable and are bruised,” he said. “They were buckling under the pressure. When you actually watch it and you see how emotional, they are both clearly very troubled. I think that is quite concerning—Harry speaking about his own mental health struggles.”

The concern about the comments comes as reaction grows to other comments Markle, in particular, made during her interviews. At one point, she discussed conversations she has had with Prince Harry about the future, indicating that they currently just “survive,” while also revealing that her friends warned her that this kind of scrutiny would likely happen.

Meanwhile, Prince Harry’s comments, particularly about his relationship with his brother, Prince William, has changed, as well as his discussion on how his mother’s death still haunts him so many years later, have also become big topics of conversation.
