Meghan Markle, Jessica Mulroney Update: Duchess Considers Friendship 'Done,' Source Claims
KEY POINTS
- Meghan Markle allegedly considers her friendship with Jessica Mulroney "done"
- This came after the stylist referred to her "closest friend" in her apology to influencer Sasha Exeter
- Fans and royal watchers speculated that the Canadian was referring to the duchess
Meghan Markle’s friendship with Jessica Mulroney is allegedly over after the latter’s “white privilege” controversy.
Mulroney has been in hot water recently after being accused by Sasha Exeter, a Black fitness influencer and founder of the So Sasha blog, of threatening her livelihood and using her power to silence her.
Following the stylist’s social media brawl with Exeter, the Duchess of Sussex has reportedly decided to put her friendship with Mulroney behind her, a source told Us Weekly. Apparently, Markle wasn’t happy that her BFF brought up their connection in her response to the controversy.
The comment in question, which has been deleted, was posted by Mulroney on Exeter’s page. In her statement, she apologized for her actions, which the social media star dubbed as “textbook white privilege.”
But the Canadian appeared to drag Markle into the conversation when she subtly hinted at her relationship with the royal and referred to the duchess as her “closest” pal.
Mulroney wrote that she “lived a very public and personal experience with my closest friend where race was front and centre.” Although she didn’t name Markle in the comment, fans and royal watchers had an idea of who she was referring to.
“Meghan could not get over that Jessica brought up her relationship with Meghan when she commented about her ‘closest friend’ in the discourse with Sasha. That was hugely offensive to Meghan and the deciding factor for her. Meghan considers the relationship to be done,” the Us Weekly insider added.
Another source said that Markle and Mulroney’s friendship had been gradually becoming “less strong before this drama went down.”
The insider shared that Markle had been supportive of Mulroney and all her friends, but it was “a bit off-putting” when the 40-year-old marketing consultant used their relationship for headlines. The former “Suits” actress allegedly knows when people close to her do this to her.
Markle is also wary about her affiliations during these times, the source claimed.
Mulroney stirred controversy when she sent Exeter a message seemingly threatening her by saying that she has talked to the companies and sponsors working with the influencer.
Markle’s BFF appeared to have taken offense to Exeter's call to action for influencers with a big following, which urged them to use their platform to support Black Lives Matter. Although the influencer didn’t drop names, Mulroney replied with a scathing message that Exeter publicized.
After the controversy, Mulroney lost a couple of her gigs, including "Good Morning America."
