  • Markle reportedly wanted the top spot but couldn't get it because it was only reserved for the monarch

Meghan Markle reportedly left the royal family because she couldn't take the spotlight, according to a royal biographer.

British writer and investigative journalist Tom Bower dropped his new book "Revenge: Meghan, Harry and the war between the Windsors" last week. Following the release of his tome, Bower spoke with GB News' "Breakfast with Eamonn and Isabel," where he weighed in on the Duchess of Sussex's decision to leave the royal family and return to California.

"Meghan is a person who controls the narrative, that has been part of the problem," Bower said. "When she came to London to become part of the Royal Family, she couldn't understand why she wasn't more important and wasn't more in control of everything. And that's why she has fractious relationships with so many people."

The "Rebel Prince" author does not doubt Markle's love for Prince Harry. He believed it was the reason she joined the firm. Aside from that, Bower speculated that she also "loves the status."

However, when the former "Suits" star joined the royals, she "quickly discovered she wasn't going to get the status of number one, which is what she wanted." Bower noted that "there is only one number in the Royal Family, and the rest of the family is there to support the Queen."

According to Bower, Prince Harry's wife couldn't understand why she couldn't get the spotlight. So, she reportedly "decided she'd be better off in Hollywood."

In the same interview, the former BBC journalist and TV producer said the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were "needy people," and they were the exact person they were looking for in a partner.

Bower claimed that Markle was looking for a "famous and rich" English husband, and Prince Harry was available. On the other hand, Prince William's younger brother was "desperately looking for somebody" when he met Markle, and she "fitted the bill" because the Duchess of Sussex was good-looking, a good companion, and could talk about his favorite subjects well. For him, Prince Harry and Markle's relationship will work.

"And they both needed each other, and I think to that extent, for Harry, it was a wonderful gift, a match made in heaven, and also for Meghan because that was the sort of person [she was] looking for, famous and rich," Bower said.
