Meghan Markle To Make Royal Debut At Wimbledon, Reunite With Serena Williams
Meghan Markle is attending Wimbledon for the first time as a royal.
According to Ainhoa Barcelona, a journalist for Hello!, the Duchess of Sussex's attendance at the tennis tournament has been confirmed. Markle will be making several appearances during the competition.
It is believed that Markle will be there to cheer on her good friend Serena Williams. On Saturday, the two ladies were spotted together at the Audi Polo Cup. It was the first time that they were seen together after the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's royal wedding.
Markle and Williams' friendship started back in February 2014 when they played a game of flag football on DIRECTV's Celebrity Beach Bowl. The pair immediately hit it off and became the best of friends.
"She quickly became a confidante I would text when I was traveling, the friend I would rally around for her tennis matches, and the down to earth chick I was able to grab lunch with just a couple weeks ago in Toronto," Markle said about Williams.
In related news, Markle was spotted at Wimbledon on July 4, 2016. The former "Suits" star was there to watch Williams' game and was seated only inches away from Kate Middleton's sister, Pippa Middleton, who was there to watch Roger Federer's match.
Markle was also photographed at the Polo Ralph Lauren VIP suite where the duke's ex, Cressida Bonas, was seen hanging out. At the time, Markle had just met Prince Harry at Soho House. It remains unknown if the two were formally introduced to each other. Bonas was among Prince Harry and Markle's guests at their royal wedding.
In related news, fans are hoping to see Markle with her sister-in-law, Middleton, at the tournament. The Duchess of Cambridge is a big fan of the sport. In fact, she is a patron of the lawn tennis club.
Back in 2013, when Middleton was heavily pregnant with Prince George, she begged her doctor to allow her to watch the tournament. Unfortunately, her request was turned down.
It remains unknown if Middleton can make it to Wimbledon as she is still on maternity leave. According to Duncan Larcombe, "Kate could disappear into the background until October."
