Meghan Markle may never receive the honor that Queen Elizabeth II bestowed to Kate Middleton.
On Wednesday, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex surprised the world when they announced that they are stepping back from their roles as senior members of the royal family. Prince Harry and Markle intend to work to be financially independent.
Following their big announcement, Express reported that Markle may never receive the honor that the Queen bestowed to the Duchess of Cambridge. The report was referring to the title that Middleton received from the monarch on her and Prince William’s eighth wedding anniversary, the Dame Grand Cross of the Royal Victorian Order.
Previous reports claimed that Markle may have to wait even longer to receive a similar honor. Initially, the reason behind this was Markle’s citizenship as the duchess is not yet a British citizen.
“While it took Middleton eight years to receive the title, there’s a possibility her sister-in-law Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex, will have to wait even longer,” journalist Janice Williams explained.
“Although she may be eligible to receive an honorary Knight’s title if the Queen one day chooses, the former US resident may have to wait to receive full British status before she’s granted a title in the Royal Victorian Order.”
However, now that Prince Harry and Markle are planning to move to North America and might seek citizenship in the country where they are planning to stay after stepping back from their roles, Markle’s chance of getting the same honor as Middleton is slim. However, the Sussexes said that they will continue to collaborate with Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Charles and Prince William.
The honor has put Middleton in the company of dignitaries like knights and dames including Prince Andrew, Prince Edward and Prince Charles’ wife, Camilla Parker Bowles. It’s also uncommon for the royal spouses to receive Orders from the Queen shortly after marriage. In fact, Prince Philip was only made Knight Grand Cross in 2017 during his 70th wedding anniversary with Queen Elizabeth II.
In related news, Markle left Middleton broken hearted with her and Prince Harry’s decision to quit from their royal roles. The Duchess of Cambridge reportedly wanted her kids Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis to spend more time with their cousin Archie.
On the other hand, Queen Elizabeth II was reportedly disappointed and furious at the royal couple. Her Majesty wasn’t happy that Prince Harry and Markle didn’t consult any senior members of the Firm about their decision before announcing it to the world.
