Meghan Markle has been dubbed as the new Princess Diana by a royal correspondent.

Emily Andrews, a royal expert for The Sun, said that the Duchess of Sussex’s recent PR tactic of briefing five of her friends on the truth behind the ongoing negative reports about her is a move straight out of the Princess of Wales’ book.

On Wednesday, People spoke with five of Markle’s friends, who denied the majority of the rumors surrounding the royal. One of them said that Markle has reached out to her dad multiple times. A second friend said that Markle does not have an expensive lifestyle. Another pal claimed that Markle never had a falling out with her half-siblings because they were never close to begin with.

“This was Meghan – just like Diana in the 1980s and 1990s – bypassing Palace protocol and setting the record straight,” Andrews said.

Ingrid Seward, the editor-in-chief of Majesty magazine, said that Princess Diana used to take matters into her hands every time she saw something in the papers that she didn’t like.

“She’d speak to favored journalists or friends such as Caroline Bartholomew, who acted as the go-between with Andrew Morton on his book. She would tip off photographers for pictures that would make her look good, such as secret charity visits and the pictures on Dodi’s boat,” she said.

As of late, the identities of the people that spoke on Markle’s behalf have not yet been revealed. But there are rumors suggesting that it could be the “Suits” alum’s Pilates guru Heather Dorak. It could also be her good friend Benita Litt.

Andrews also speculated on the possibility of Lindsay Jill Roth, Sarah Rafferty, and Janina Gavankar speaking on behalf of Markle. Some of Serena Williams’ followers are also convinced that she was the one that spilled all of the information about Markle during the interview.
