Meghan Markle and Prince Harry cut ties with four tabloids from the U.K.

Prince Harry did not hide his disdain for the press. According to Duncan Larcombe, who covered Prince Harry for over a decade as The Sun’s royal editor, his attitude toward the media is “he doesn’t like the press.”

He believes it was the reason why the Duke and Duchess of Sussex didn’t invite the press on their big day. “The chance of leaving journalists out in the street for the royal wedding is a gift for him,” Larcombe said.

Just recently, Prince Harry and Markle decided to stop working with four U.K. tabloids. Royal correspondent Omid Scobie took to Twitter and shared that the royal couple told Daily Mail, Express, Mirror and The Sun that they will never be dealing with them again.

“As The Duke and Duchess of Sussex now settle into the next chapter of their lives and no longer receive any publicly funded support, we are writing to set a new media relations policy, specifically as it pertains to your organisation,” the letter read.

Prince Harry and Markle agreed with the free press because it shines a light on dark places. It tells the stories that would otherwise go untold. However, they were not happy about the reports in which those tabloids failed to take accountability.

The Sussexes were referring to false and distorted reports to boost advertising revenue. They reminded the tabloids that their businesses impacted “real” humans and affected every corner of the society.

“The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have watched people they know – as well as complete strangers – have their lives completely pulled apart for no good reason, other than the fact that salacious gossip boosts advertising revenue,” the statement continued.

“With that said, please note that The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will not be engaging with your outlet. There will be no collaboration and zero engagement.”

In 2019, Prince Harry and Markle filed a lawsuit against Mail on Sunday, The Sun and The Mirror. Their move was dubbed by many as the act of raging war against the press. Dan Wootton, executive editor for The Sun, criticized it by writing, “Prince Harry’s war on the press is unhinged,” on Twitter.
