Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s aim at Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice was “petulant and painful,” according to a royal expert.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex released a statement on their website after Queen Elizabeth II banned them from using the “Sussex Royal” brand. Aside from saying that the Queen has no jurisdiction over the word “royal” overseas, they also said that there was precedent of other titled members of the royal family to seek employment outside of the institution, but they are only given a 12-month review period.

Many thought that the royal couple was aiming at Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson’s daughters with the said part of their statement. But according to royal expert Phil Dampier, the Sussexes’ statement was unnecessary.

“Harry and Meghan’s statement was petulant, painful and totally unnecessary. If their comments about being treated differently were aimed at Bea and Eugenie, they were unfair,” Dampier said. “They don’t receive money from the Sovereign Grant and no longer have police protection.”

Dampier stressed that Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie both have full-time jobs. They only carry out engagements to support the Queen and the royal family. But they were never paid from the privy purse.

Meanwhile, Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice’s mom was reportedly shocked that her kids were targeted by the Sussexes. The Duchess of York has supported Prince Harry and Markle, but she’s not pleased with them aiming at her daughters.

“Bea and Eugenie aren’t to be used as pawns in their battle with the Queen. This is supposed to be [the] happiest times of her daughters’ lives – Bea is getting married and Eugenie is trying for a baby – and it’s so upsetting that they’re being dragged into this mess,” a source said.

Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice are expecting to take bigger roles after Prince Harry and Markle’s exit. The Duke of Cambridge was willing to give his royal cousins more jobs.

Prince Charles who declined Prince Andrew’s request to make his daughters full-time working royals reportedly had a change of heart. The Prince of Wales initially wanted to slim down the monarchy, but he will reportedly not object if the Queen will give them official roles.
