Meghan Markle Reportedly Threatening To File Lawsuit Against Outlet For Publishing Letter
Meghan Markle is reportedly threatening to sue a publication for releasing her private letters to her dad.
According to The Guardian, the Duchess of Sussex is contemplating on whether or not she should sue Daily Mail under the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act for publishing the private letters she wrote to Thomas Markle Sr. The letters were given by the former lighting director to the publication.
Markle’s representatives have reportedly been in touch with the online publication. This shouldn’t come as a surprise because other members of the royal family have also done the same thing with other news outlets in the past.
As of late, the “Suits” alum’s letter has not yet been taken down. It details Markle’s relationship with her dad and half-sister, Samantha Markle.
“Daddy, it is with a heavy heart that I write this, not understanding why you have to claim to take this path, turning a blind eye to the pain you’re causing. Your actions have broken my heart into a million pieces – not simply because you have manufactured such unnecessary and unwarranted pain, but by making the choice to not tell the truth as you are puppeteered in this,” Markle wrote in her note.
Thomas decided to make his daughter’s letter public after Markle reportedly gave some of her closest friends the go-signal to talk to People magazine about some of the rumors she is currently plagued with, including issues with her family.
The 74-year-old told the Daily Mail that he didn’t think Markle’s letter proved that she reached out to him to end their rift.
“The letter was presented in a way that vilified me and that wasn’t true. Meghan can’t have it both ways… She can’t use the press to get her message across but hang me out to dry… I have the right to defend myself,” he said.
As of late, Markle has not spoken to her dad face-to-face. She also didn’t visit him when she traveled to New York for her baby shower.
